Hephatha

May 22, 2017

Greetings!

I write this letter on behalf of the entire congregation here at Hephatha to extend an invitation to join us for a very special service(s) this Memorial Day Weekend.

During this service, we want to designate time to appreciate the sacrifice of those who have served and lost their lives to defend our nation.

In the New Testament, St. John wrote, “G reater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends(John15:13).

Other than our Lord’s death on the cross, can there be any greater sacrifice or expression of love than for a soldier to be willing to put their life on the line so that others may enjoy freedom? We, as a church and nation, should always stand ready to remember and give honor where honor is due.

George Sweeting, the former President of Moody Bible University, wrote the following: “When we come to the end of life, the question will be, “How much have you given?” not “How much have you gotten?”

While we will never be able to thank the person directly who gave their life, at least we can share our appreciation with family members, as well as provide a meaningful presentation of remembrance to our sons and daughters, children and grandchildren. It is our hope that they continue to carry on this legacy of appreciation to the next generations.

I hope to see you on Sunday.

As always, I love serving as your pastor!

Sincerely in the Savior,

Old Testament Survey

Many Christians shy away from the Old Testament or look only at a few well-known passages. Much of the Old Testament seems obscure, and difficult to place into a historical and theological context. The result of such neglect is that much of the richness of the New Testament is lost. This Survey is designed to ease Christians into the Old Testament.

This course is designed to introduce you to the literature, history, and messages of the Old Testament. The Old Testament provides its readers with a history of the people of Israel and a picture of Israel’s relationship with God. Yet, the Old Testament is far more than the story of ancient Israel. This survey is broken into four major sub-categories: Pentateuch, Historical Narratives, the Prophets, and Wisdom Literature. This survey of the Old Testament has as its primary goal the presentation of the Gospel

This is an opportunity to slow down, take your time, and dive deeper into God’s word. May you be convicted, instructed, and refreshed.

Getting started is easy! Just take the below 4 steps.

  1. Send an email to the church office saying you want to sign up at HephathaChurch@Hephatha.net.
  2. Read portions of the Bible weekly.
  3. Check out the handouts and videos at your convenience.
  4. Interact with the other students and talk about what you are learning.

Men's Bible Study: Grace: More than we Deserve, Greater than we Imagine Men, join us Thursday, June 8, at 7:15 a.m. in Pastor Andrews' office as we start a new bible study by Max Lucado, Grace.

Grace. We talk as though we understand the term. The bank gives us a grace period. The seedy politician falls from grace. We describe an actress as gracious, a dancer as graceful. We use the word for hospitals, baby girls, kings, and premeal prayers. We talk as though we know what grace means. But do we really understand it? Have we settled for a wimpy grace? Grace has a drenching about it. A wildness about it. A white-water, riptide turn-you-upside-downness about it. Grace comes after you. It rewires you. From insecure to God secure. Couldn’t you use more grace like this? What about your family, your city, your whole world? Have they been shaped by grace? Strengthened by grace? Saved by grace? New York Times bestselling author, Max Lucado, invites you to settle in and consider God’s best idea—grace. It’s more than we deserve, greater than we imagine. And it’s all we need.
